A Speech Pathologist is an allied health professional who specialises in assessing, diagnosing and treating communication disorders in children. These disorders include speech sound errors, language delays, social communication challenges, stuttering, children who are non-speaking and more.
Speech pathologists work closely with your child to develop personalised therapy plans to improve their communication skills, ensuring they can express themselves effectively and confidently. They also provide guidance and support to parents, teaching them techniques and exercises to continue helping their child's progress at home. Ultimately, a speech pathologist is dedicated to helping your child overcome communication challenges and reach their full potential.

Research and statistics show that 20-30% of children with language and communication delays, do not ‘catch up’ on their own. These children will have ongoing challenges with their language and social communication skills without tailored intervention and support.
If you aren’t sure if your child requires support to develop their communication skills, please contact us. Especially if your child is between the ages 2-7 years.
Research shows that early intervention is crucial because it can significantly improve your child's long-term development and success. During the early years, a child's brain is highly adaptable, making it the optimal time to address speech and language challenges. Prompt intervention can help your child develop essential communication skills, build confidence, and achieve better academic and social outcomes, setting a strong foundation for their future growth and well-being.

The duration of speech therapy for a child can vary widely depending on several factors, including the nature and severity of the child's speech and language difficulties, the age of the child, and how consistently they attend therapy sessions and practice at home. It's essential to keep in mind that every child is unique, and their progress will be individualized.
-
If your child is shy and reluctant to talk during their speech pathology appointment, it's essential to create a supportive and comfortable environment for them. We are experienced in working with hesitant children and can employ various strategies to help. We may use play-based therapy, visual aids, and non-verbal communication to engage your child gradually. Building a positive rapport and setting achievable goals are key to boosting their confidence. Involving parents in the process, offering encouragement and praise for efforts, and gradually exposing your child to longer sessions can also help ease their shyness and encourage communication development. Open communication with the speech pathologist is crucial to tailor the approach to your child's unique needs.

YES! We have the flexibility to provide services via telehealth.
Some families choose to change their child’s appointment to a telehealth consult if their child is sick. We can provide parent coaching sessions in place of their face-to-face appointment.
We can also provide telehealth services ongoing if this suits you and your child.
